The baltimoresun.com has an article about the rection of Stephenie’s fans about Stephen King’s critique:

didn’t see the approaching storm when I wrote a recent Read Street post about Stephen King’s critique of Stephenie Meyer, author of the immensely popular Twilight series. As you may have heard, he said in an interview with USA Weekend: “[J.K.] Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.” (He also skewered James Patterson, ran hot and cold on Dean Koontz and praised Jodi Picoult, but no one seemed to notice.)

Nancy warned me that posting his comments would unleash a torrent of fury from fans of Meyer’s teenage vampire saga. I ignored her advice and, as usual, regretted it.

More than 125 people responded to that post, and many called King an idiot – and worse. Those comments were offset by others calling Meyer and her fans idiots – and worse. So while the Baltimore area basked in unusually warm weather, much of my time was spent censoring the rudest language and deleting profanity-laden comments.

I never understood why people must use profanity to get their argument or their point across. I didnt like what Stephen King said, but to be honest i can use an intelligent way of getting my point across to that Baltimore Sun reporter.

How awful it must be for him to have to see all those nasty responses filled with profanity. That doesnt make us fans look good. I wish people wouldnt use that when discussing things.

Although I love the twilight books and movie, I agree with King. That was always how I differentiated Meyer and Rowling, too, one was a writer and the other wasn’t. Both stories are good, and Twilight had the potential to be much more, but the writing is not good, I don’t see how anyone, even a fan, can deny it.

Yes I agree with Rain,
I too love the twilight books, but I’d have to say that Stephenie Meyer isn’t as good as Rowling. I wouldn’t say that she’s not a writer, maybe perhaps just a better story teller. Personally I don’t think that Twilight is a great literature but nonetheless I still love the books.

Like Stephen King cares about the hateful messages, to be honest. I’m sure he’s faced far worse criticisms on his own books, from other critics. In defense of him, he outright complimented her ability to draw people in, but most Twilighters only stop once they see “she can’t write worth darn.” Which is true, she does have that ability, just like J.K. Rowling and King himself, but King’s books are written for a very different audience.

What hardcore Twilight fans and even Meyer herself don’t seem to understand is that if you’re an author, it doesn’t matter if you want it or not, you automatically set yourself up for any criticism, constructive or harsh, good or bad. It comes with the career, no matter how bad or good you are. Meyer isn’t going to please everyone, and Stephen King just happened to be one of those people who doesn’t think she’s good.
