Despite being offered a huge sum of money to come onboard, Catherine Hardwicke decided not to direct “Twilight” sequel “New Moon.” The director told Entertainment Weekly that she didn’t want to make the film under the deadline and budget restraints that would have been placed on her for the follow-up, reports the Associated Press.

She recalls being at dinner with “Twilight” stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Paris when she got the call from Summit Entertainment, which offered her “more money than I or anyone in my family has ever seen.”

But, she added that with the payday came tight budget restraints and deadlines. “I was devastated,” said Hardwick, who will release her book “Twilight: Director’s Notebook” in March. “I really did feel a strong connection to the people around the world that liked the movie, and to Stephenie and the actors. But I just didn’t think I could make a good movie under those circumstances.”

Hmm, i dont know how i feel about the change of directors, i have my moments for sure.

I know how H’Wood and studios and such work so i’m totally aware of how this is gonna be “played out”.

A part of me LOVES how passionate Catherine is for the project, how much she seemed to enjoy the fans and value their opinions and such (i’ve only seen that with Peter Jackson previously when he was directing the Lord of the Rings from book to movies).

But at the same time i (and my friends who all saw the movie with me…and we saw it more than once! lol) we had a lot of issues with a bunch of things and the way the movie was directed. Sure, a lot of those issues could’ve been solved with the script, but the direction was a major issue too.

So i feel torn. While i love her passion and devotion to the books and the movie and of course the fans, i also feel like Chris is not such a bad choice and that perhaps he will give us an even better movie.

Either way, i’m excited and i cant wait to see what New Moon will bring to us!

Yeah, I think the same too, Katherine.
Though I’m sure that Chris Weitz will do a really good job. I saw the Golden Compass and I think it was directed pretty well. Also I think he’s going to do the werewolves scene great as hes worked with the whole CGI thing.
I hope it’ll be directed as well as the Golden Compass and will be a great follow up to Twilight.

by Katherine in February 12 - 2:00 pm

^^Yea Becki, i think that he will do a good job. I heard that The Golden Compass was a big budget movie that had a LOT of CGI effects so that will come in handy when they have to do CGI for the warewolves transformation in New Moon.

Like i said, i will miss Catherine (evven though i had issues with the Twilight movie, lol) but i still cant wait to see what Chris will bring to the table.

He seems to respect what the fans think as well, and Kristen already said that he’s a really sweet guy that seems very devoted to doing a good job on New Moon, and i dont think Kristen would say that if she didnt feel that way.

I think ,(i hope that i make a mistake)that the story is romantic because a woman make the film and when a man make the new film , the action take the control

by Eva in February 12 - 3:28 pm

Im so embarrassed to adimt this, but…
In one interview Rob said that when he got hired Catharine was like – promise me you won’t try anything with Kristen, her boyfriend is one of my close friends. So with her out of the picture, Robert could work his magic on Kristen

by Katherine in February 12 - 3:31 pm

Maria thats not necessarily true, that if a man directs it it will be less romantic.

Lets not forget that “The Notebook”, “The English Patient”, “Romeo and Juliet”, etc etc were all directed by men and they are one of the most romantic movies ever (well to me they are, lol). So i dont think thats necessarily true.

In my opinion i dont think Catherine focused enough on the love story in Twilight, to me this was one my issues with the movie, and thats that she moved too fast to show that they are in love. She should’ve taken her time with the development of the love between Edward and Bella, so that we may feel what they are risking by choosing to be with each other, just like we saw in the book, in the movie i felt like she was rushing to get to the final confrontation between Edward and James (the actions scene in the movie if you will) so for me she could’ve spent a little bit more time on that.

And she should’ve included the Biology blood typing scene for sure…that was surely missed and it kinda set up a lot of things to follow later but she didnt include that.

i could go on and on with other issues but thats ok.

Like i said previously, i LOVED her passion for the project, but the movie had a lot of things that could’ve been done better so a new director may not be such a bad idea, lol.

Eva, OMG i never heard of that! Where did you hear that??

Thats very interesting, i dont know if its true or not, but its interesting nonetheless.

(and sorry for two posts in a row!)

by Eva in February 12 - 3:36 pm

Katherine, I know. I saw that interview just yesterday.
You can watch it here —> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7hE-MihuO0&NR=1

Thank you Eva, i’m gonna check it out now!

by Eva in February 12 - 3:48 pm

You’r welcome!! Post back on what do you think of that.

by Katherine in February 12 - 5:53 pm

Eva, you’re not the only one to think that way. I think they would make a cute couple too, their chemistry is very evident when they do interview TOGETHER, its funny when you watch them do the interviews by themselves and then when you see them together its totally different, its like they feed off ecah other, there’s great energy there.

I love that clip you posted from YouTube, i have never seen it before, thats so cute. BTW, i LOVE how honest they both are in their interviews, they just tell it like it is, they’re like “yea there’s chemistry between us for sure” its very sweet to watch.

It will be sweet to see what the future holds. But they do make a cute couple … on screen and off! lol.

by Jennifer in February 12 - 6:50 pm

boo, that youtube link is “no longer available” but i think i heard about this too, about what catherine said to robert.
i would  to see them get together  ..they are young and have PLENTY of time. so i think they should wait until all the movies are made to start anything. we don’t want that chemistry between them ruined… the longer they hold out the more sexual tension will build which will make thier scenes together that much hotter… oh snap!

by ebbsterr in February 12 - 9:17 pm

WOW, im the only person that does not think the chemistry between Rob and Kristen was touching. Sorry, i was not touched! The kiss was good, dialogue sucked. And Catherine letting Kstew change all the lines was irresponsible as a director. WHy not had Kstew write the script in the first place?

by Katherine in February 12 - 10:31 pm

Jennifer, the YouTube link worked for me. I dont know why its not working for you. Strange.

Ebbsterr, i dont know what they allowed Kristen to change in the script and whatnot, i’m not familiar with that, but for me personally i can see their chemistry off screen for sure, you can see it in interviews they do, the way they speak of each other, in pics etc. And i could also see it on screen in certain moments for sure. Thats why i said in my earlier posts that my problem with Catherine and the way she directed Twilight is that she didnt show us ENOUGH of that chemistry, didnt show us enough of the relationship between Edward and Bella, i felt that if she did show us that a bit more than maybe we would’ve seen that off screen chemistry more on screen.

I hope it makes sense what i’m trying to say.

I liked Twilight the movie very much, saw it a bunch of times in the theaters, i just thought it could’ve been much better.

by maria in February 13 - 2:07 am

I agree with you, Katherine, but the only interwiew that i see to kristen, uncomfortable was in “today show”with Meredith vieira. When they leave the set and they went to see the fanatics fans of rob, she was uncomfortable, in youtube are the interwiew. And she was very beautiful . You see.

by Eva in February 13 - 2:30 am

Katherine, you just took the words right out of my mouth. I agree that they have an amazing chemistry going on. I love to watch all the interviews and pics of them together. This video just made me think – maybe there are more pople like Catherine in Kristens life holding her back from Rob and so..we’ll see, we’ll see

by ebbsterr in February 13 - 8:18 am

There have been a few interviews when Kristen admitted she refused to say her lines and that she re-phrased every single scene cause she did not want to sound “stupid”.

I dont follow up much on the chemistry R&K have/may have off screen. But yes, as a HUGE fan of the series, i was let down. The kissing scene was the only moment that i SAW Edward & Bella. Other than that, it seems like it was KStew that could not express how much Bella was infatuated with Edward. And like you said Kat, can i call you Kat? lol, they have the chemestry but it was lack in direction and not the actors. We’ll see in New Moon!!!

The second time that my friends and i watched it, we all agreed that it was better than the first time. So the movie did grow on me.

I think we all can agree that seeing the characters come to life was the passion behind the movie. Had i not read the books, and seen the movie, i would have been less impressed.
