Michael Copon: I’ve Got 60 Pounds on Taylor Lautner

JustJaredJR. has posted an article of Michael Copon. No comments on that article, I’m too angry.

Looks like Michael Copon and Taylor Lautner will be duking it out for the role of Jacob Black!

Michael, 26, just spoke with J-14 to talk about nabbing himself the perfect part in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to Twilight.

On what he’s been doing to prepare: I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I’m close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor’s [Lautner] probably what, 140, if he’s lucky? I’m already 200 pounds, so there’s no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he’s 5′6″ and I’m 6′2″. In the book, he grows eight inches and I’m exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.

On why he should get the role of Jacob Black: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he’s great and tremendous at what he does. But it’s just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It’s a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn’t brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character.

On the books: I’ve read the first one and I’ve dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven’t had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.

Check out the rest of the Q&A with Michael @ J-14.com.

Ashley Is Excited About Chris Weitz

MTV has more footage from Ashley at the HFPA Salute To Young Hollywood Party on Wednesday, and this time she talks about New Moon and Chris Weitz.

I want to drive the yellow Porsche, really bad — in Europe,” she giggled, citing the “New Moon” moment she’s most eager to film. “That’s what I’m most excited about now. I keep saying I hope they let me drive it, because on the first ‘Twilight’ we wanted to do our own stunts, and they let us do everything we realistically could. So, I’m hoping if I learn how to drive stick-shift, they’ll let me drive the Porsche.”

“I’m sad to see Catherine go, but I think Chris is going to do a really great job,” said the star. “I’m excited to work with him, because obviously he’s worked with CGI before, and he’s very familiar with it. It’ll be good. We all knew [Catherine leaving] was a possibility, and I respect the fact that she said, ‘Hey, I want more prep time. Maybe I wouldn’t do the best job,’ and that she gave someone else her place. That’s what we do; that’s our job. We work with different, great people every day.”

Taylor Talks About Staying On ‘New Moon’

MTV.com has just posted an article about Taylor and New moon:

“I have been working out. I’ve been working out since the day we finished filming ‘Twilight.’ I just weighed myself today; I’ve put on 19 pounds,” the noticeably larger Lautner told us, promising that he’ll be big enough to fit Stephenie Meyer’s physical description of Jacob Black in “New Moon” when cameras begin rolling in 12 weeks. “I’m guaranteeing Weitz 10 more [pounds] by filming. I get to meet Chris on Friday, in two days, so I’m excited. I’m going to have lunch with him.”

“I’ve heard a few things,” he said of Copon. “I don’t really know too much to comment on it. As far as I know, I haven’t been told ‘no’ yet, so it’s still all up in the air.”

”New Moon’ release is set

That seems to be the thinking at Summit Entertainment, which Monday slotted the film “New Moon” — the sequel to vampire romance “Twilight” — for Friday, Nov. 20. “Twilight” opened with a huge $69.6 million in domestic boxoffice in the Nov. 21 frame this year, and distributors tend to return to the scene of such happy events with future franchise installments.

“Same time, same place,” Summit distribution boss Richie Fay said. “If it’s also the same gross, we’ll be very pleased. Hopefully, we’ll have even better results.”

Execs at Summit — which announced plans for a sequel on just the second day of release for “Twilight” — just confirmed that Chris Weitz (“The Golden Compass”) will direct “New Moon.” The minimajor recently parted ways on the project with Catherine Hardwicke, who helmed the original.

‘New Moon’ Casting News

MTV has posted some casting news in their site… of course this is just rumors.

MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old “Scorpion King 2″ actor Michael Copon [pronounced "COPE-on"] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they’re making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And in a bit of 21st-century self-publicity, the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: “Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!” and “Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!”

With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the “Twilight” fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose “New Moon” encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.

Confirmed: Chris Weitz is the director of New Moon

Hey everybody, sorry for the lack of update of my part today, I’m sick but we just got a very important new, and I had to share with everybody fast. Stephenie has updated her site confirming that Chris Weitz will be the director of New Moon.

Hey guys,

There’s been a lot of worry and speculation on the boards lately, and I want to let you know what’s going on.

First of all, like you, I’m sad that Catherine is not continuing on with us for New Moon. I’m going to miss her, not just as a brilliant director, but also as a friend. She has such a distinct, authentic voice that did amazing things for Twilight. I’m looking forward to every movie she does in the future.

And she didn’t leave us empty handed. We still get the benefits of her amazing casting and the beautiful visual world she created. This foundation puts us in a good place for New Moon.

Summit Films is moving forward with a new director for New Moon. They’ve asked Chris Weitz, director of American Pie, About a Boy, and The Golden Compass, to join us, and I am very pleased to announce that he’s agreed to be a part of our Twilight world. I’ve had the chance to talk to Chris, and I can tell you that he is excited by the story and eager to keep the movie as close to the book as possible. He is also very aware of you, the fans, and wants to keep you all extremely happy. (Torches and pitchforks are not going to be necessary.)

I’m excited to work with Chris and I think he brings a lot to the table, not the least of which for me is that he wrote the screenplay for and directed one of my favorite movies of all time, About a Boy. I’m really looking forward to seeing his vision for New Moon.

Stephenie also has a letter from Chris to all fans and some pictures of her in the premiere of Twilight. Go here to read the letter, and here to view the pictures.

‘New Moon’ director will be Chris Weitz

According with EW, Chris Weitz will direct New Moon.

Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, has grossed more than $141 million so far, but Hardwicke had clashed with the studio during production. It was announced early this week that she would not be making New Moon. Weitz has a solid relationship with Summit’s top brass; he’s considered easy to work with and has experience with special effects. “He’s the quality-of-life-choice,” says one source. While Summit insists “we have not yet signed Chris Weitz to do New Moon,” and Weitz’s agency says no deal has been signed, other sources say the deal is imminent, and that Summit has stopped negotiations with other potential Moon directors. Summit had planned to announce this hiring decision on Sunday, Dec. 14, and could have Weitz in Vancouver, B.C. as early as Monday to start pre-production on the film
