New Moon‘ broke the all of the records for the midnight screenings, even Harry Potter’s!!!

Summit Entertainment is reporting that the “Twilight” sequel opened on Thursday night to an unprecedented $26.3 million during its midnight screenings across the country. The film unspooled on 3,514 screens, playing at 12:01 a.m. for die-hard fans — many of whom arrived at the theaters dressed as their favorite characters.

That total handily beats the midnight-screening record of “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” This seems to vindicate “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone, who famously responded to our question of whether Stephenie Meyer’s franchise could take on J.K. Rowling’s juggernaut, “I don’t know; they’ve got brooms.”

In case you need further proof that “Twilight” is the new “Potter,” look no further than the recent news …

**OMG I’m SOOO HAPPY for all of the cast, director and author of the books!!! For more and more success!!! That’s just the opening night ;)

Bloomberg reports,

As Summit Entertainment LLC releases the sequel to “Twilight” in theaters today, the studio is searching for a follow-up to the vampire series that has so far made $384 million in global ticket sales.

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” based on the second of Stephenie Meyer’s four best-selling novels, may bring in $600 million worldwide, said David Davis, founder of Arpeggio Partners LLC, a consulting firm to movie studios and film investors based in Santa Monica, California.

The success of “Twilight” has allowed Summit to expand its film slate at a time when other studios are retrenching. The challenge for the studio is to find new properties to replace “Twilight” once the series ends, Davis said.

The cast gave in their expectations of how much ‘New Moon‘ will pull in the box office when it comes out in 3 DAYS!

Once upon a time, a little film called “Twilight” was scheduled to come out within a few weeks of a “Harry Potter” movie, and Hollywood prognosticators found it absurd to suggest that the vampire series posed any sort of box-office threat. Months after that, buzz on the red carpet at the “Twilight” premiere was that the film could open with a weekend between $40 or $50 million — it ended up with $69.6 million.

Now, it’s a year later and “New Moon” has become the biggest advance-ticket seller in Fandango history. So, we took the obvious question to the film’s stars at Monday’s (November 16) red-carpet premiere: How big will this weekend’s “New Moon” opening be?

“We have a bet about that,” revealed Chaske Spencer, who plays wolf pack member Sam Uley in the sequel, divulging that the shirtless stars have a friendly wager going on. …

New Moon, which is 15 days away *VERY EXCITED!*, is set to be box office smash. Read the following article to know why.

New Moon is on course to smash U.S. box office records when it hits cinemas later this month (Nov09) – 700 screenings have already sold out.

Demand for the vampire and werewolf franchise is so great that movie executives at Summit Entertainment are re-releasing Twilight in 2,000 theatres on 19 November (09) – the eve of the debut of The Twilight Saga: New Moon – and some of these screenings have already sold out in advance.

Two weeks before the sequel hits cinemas, New Moon currently leads all movie ticket sales at MovieTickets.com, accounting for 51 per cent of all sales. …

Two HITS are coming out this November that will thrill you out! 2012 and the Twilight Saga: New Moon. Both movies will pull a huge audience, but just one of them will win at the end! Read the following article to find out.

Due to a surprising increase in male interest, New Moon may be biting off some of 2012’s audience.

Two big movie releases in the same month in two totally different genres shouldn’t cause much trouble right? That may not be the case when Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” hits theaters just a week after Sony Pictures’ 2012. Despite one’s specific audience of younger women and the other’s broad appeal, pre-release polling show that “New Moon” may very well leave “2012” in the dark.

All numbers point to “New Moon” building off “Twilight’s” success with poll numbers of 40% among younger women plus first choice and 15% of older women (25 and up). While these numbers are impressive, the shocker is that the same number of older men as older women showed interest. The poll has yet to release numbers on what percentage will afterwards deny ever seeing the soppy love story between a teenage girl and a 100-year-old vampire. …

**Of course it’s just an article, we’ll have to wait and see, I really hope that 2012 will make a huge success which will!

boxofficeprophets.com has an interesting article on the Twilight Numbers.

In the modern box office era, there are a few special landmarks that provide delimiters for the greatness of a movie’s opening weekend. $30 million is good, but $50 million is great. The real lines of demarcation, however, are the $70 million and $100 million tiers. Only 34 movies have reached the former level, while only a dozen have managed the dramatic feat of the latter. Twilight didn’t quite manage that $70 million level, but it’s a splitting of hairs. Entering 2008, this title was completely unheralded by mainstream consumers, but it somehow managed a $69.6 million debut. That slots it neatly under all of the $70+ million debuts as the 35th largest opening of all time. What type of odds would Vegas have given you for that 12 months ago at this time?

If only Wall Street had bet on Twilight. Or Hannah Montana. Or Kirk Cameron.

With a $167.3 million overall domestic take as Sunday, per Box Office Mojo, Twilight made more than four times its reported $37 million production budget—the best rate of return on any film in the 2008 Top 10, including The Dark Knight.

The Batman epic was a pretty good investment, too, very nearly tripling its gargantuan $185 million budget with a $530.8 million domestic take, Hollywood’s second-biggest ever.

Still, The Dark Knight was nothing compared to these off-the-charts performers: High School Musical 3: Senior Year ($89.7 million), which grossed about eight times its $11 million budget; the Hannah Montana concert movie, which made about nine times its $7 million budget; and Cameron’s Fireproof, which cost $500,000 to produce, and made $33.1 million—or, more than 60 times its budget.

From reuters.uk:

Teen vampire movie “Twilight” topped the British box office over the weekend, taking 2.5 million pounds and beating animation picture “Madagascar 2″ into second place, its distributor E1 Films said on Monday.

The movie, based on the bestselling novel by U.S. author Stephenie Meyer, also topped the North American box office at its opening weekend last month with ticket sales of $69.6 million, and its backers hoped the success would extend beyond the book’s core U.S. following.
