In its third week, ‘New Moon‘ was topped by another movie which is Sandra Bullock’s ‘The Blind Side.’

resized_sandra_bullock_the_blind_side_780364_1_It is the kind of build up you can’t market or manufacture. Ironically, The Blind Side starring Sandra Bullock seemed destined to be trounced by the latest in the Twilight series, New Moon. But after holding tough on the first weekend, The Blind Side pulled close to even with Twilight in its second week out and now has taken a clear lead in its third week coming in at $6.8 million on Friday over Twilight’s $5.2 million gross.

It is a rare accomplishment. The Blind Side is entirely story driven and has gone from second place in the box office sweepstakes to number one in its third week, beating out two big budget blockbusters in the process (New Moon and 2012). It is true that Blind Side benefited from weak new entries on week two …

New Moon‘ is still shining at the top of the box office list in its second weekend with a smacking $231 million!!

Twilight New Moon has sucked all the competition out of their box offices over the weekend since the vampire film once again found tickets sales taking a solid first place at $231 million.

This new-fashioned romance between a couple of bloodsuckers and a cute girl once again ruled the box office — but not without a scare. The Sandra Bullock movie ‘The Blind Side‘ was said to briefly hold first place on Thanksgiving for overall single day sales. Yet, New Moon bit back and Twilight fans rallied to put their hotties back in the number one spot on Friday. …

New Moon‘ is doing more success day after day, and in its eighth day in the theaters it pulled $206.1 million!

In its eighth day of release, Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” crossed the double-century mark making an estimated $206.1 million. The domestic B.O. for “New Moon” easily eclipsed that of the first “Twilight” which amassed $192.8 million in 20 weeks.

After Warner Bros.’ football drama “The Blind Side” squeezed a few more bodies into the multiplex on Thanksgiving than “New Moon,” the vampire sequel took the top spot back on Friday with $17.9 million at 4,042 theaters.

While that figure reps a 75% decline for “New Moon” from its first Friday, such steep drops aren’t uncommon for a record tentpole opener, i.e. “The Dark Knight” fell 67%; “Spider-Man 3,” -71%; and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” -70%. …

LA Times has posted an article concerning Summit’s future work and it’ll be put in the mega-franchise business due to ‘The Twilight Saga.’

The Twilight Saga: New Moon” has been exploding all sorts of box office records — my colleague, Ben Fritz, says, for example, that it is the least expensive movie ever to open to more than $200 million worldwide. But the most important record that it’s on track to break is one that might give a serious new shot in the arm to everyone in the indie film world.

When you factor in the original film’s $383.8 million in worldwide grosses with the $700 million or more in worldwide grosses that “New Moon” could eventually roll up, Summit Entertainment will soon find itself having the biggest true independent film franchise in recent history. (By true independent, I’m disqualifying New Line, which made even more money with its “Lord of the Rings” franchise but wasn’t a true independent since it was already owned by Time-Warner by the time the “LOTR” series was launched.) …

New Moon‘ didn’t only exceed everyone’s expectations at the Box Office but it also did rack up $275 million worldwide and let’s just say we still have the 26th November releases of the movie ;)

Summit Entertainment’s ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon‘ brought in boatloads of cash this past weekend. Even more than expected. Who knows what will happen this Thanksgiving weekend, when kids will be out of school for four days straight.

The original box office reports for the weekend indicated that ‘New Moon‘ brought in $140.7 million domestically and $118.1 million overseas, but now those numbers have been updated.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the new global total for ‘New Moon’s’ opening weekend is a whopping $274.9 million, split between the domestic take, now at $142.7 million, and international at $142.8 million. Evidently some of the global box office figures came in slower because of the variety of distributors handling the film.

Not only did ‘New Moon‘ blow away the US box office with a smacking $140.7 million but it did top the UK box office also with a massive £11.6million ($19.2 million)!

The Twilight Saga: New Moon has fought its way to the top of the pile, and nearly beaten it’s closest rival by 4 times the amount it made this week by reaching a massive £11.6million, with ‘2012’ coming In second with a measly £3.5million in tickets sales.

The sequal, which stars returning actors Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, has already beaten its prequel, with more sales than the original Twilight film did in its whole UK theatrical release run.

New Moon also beats of festive favourite ‘A Christmas Carol,’ starring Jim Carrey, Disney’s ‘Up,’ and George Cloony films ‘The Men Who Stare At Goats’ and ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox.’ Matt Damon’s ‘The Informant’ finishes the top 10.

Only one weekend and “New Moon” keeps breaking all these records. The movie has now grossed an estimated $140.7 million!

Marking the third best weekend opening of all time, Summit Entertainment’s female-driven sequel “New Moon” grossed an estimated $140.7 million from 4,024 theaters at the domestic B.O.

Moreover, “New Moon” led what’s expected to be the second-best weekend ever at the domestic B.O. in terms of overall ticket sales, trailing only the weekend that Warner Bros.’ “The Dark Knight” opened, and that was in summer.

Assisting this weekend’s boom was Warner Bros. and Alcon Entertainment’s sports drama “The Blind Side,” which far overperformed in opening to an estimated $34.5 million from 3,110 locations.

We have no confirmation if it’s true so far… but I thought our readers would like to read the following article as much as I did!

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” sold a mind-boggling $80 million worth of tickets on Friday, according to preliminary estimates. That way surpasses the one-day record of $67 million set by “The Dark Knight” last year. Summit’s vampire sequel is now aiming to topple the three-day opening weekend record of $158M set by TDK. It was a female-driven Friday at the box office, with Warners’ sports dramedy “The Blind Side” reportedly grossing around $11.8 million and headed for a projected weekend take of as high as $35 million. Star Sandra Bullock’s all-time best opening is “The Proposal,” which bowed to $33.6M back in January. Looks like Hollywood may have a new box-office queen before the weekend is over.
