Carla Hay over at Examiner.com had the change to interview Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning while they were in New York doing publicity for “The Runaways.”

What did you learn from Cherie Currie and Joan Jett?

Fanning: I think they were really involved in helping as much as we wanted them to help us and to be there. Playing a real person is kind of a daunting task, especially [with] Cherie actually being there and meeting her and talking to her about the experiences, it was more than helpful, I think.

Stewart: They knew things that we would never know that we wouldn’t be able to put in the movie that would be lost that were very important to them. Just details, photos and footage and a book ["Neon Angel"]. It’s not an objective telling of the story; it’s definitely [Cherie Currie’s] side of it. It was nice to hear Joan’s [side of the story], because it was very different. There are a million things that would’ve been different in the movie, and we would’ve been telling story wrong had they [Cherie Currie and Joan Jett] not been there to correct us.

In her relatively short film career, Ashley Greene has played a vampire, a hostage victim and an ’80s-era teen. Whatever role she steps into in the future, Greene is sure of one thing: She won’t be taking it all off on the big screen.

“I will never say never,” the 23-year-old actress told MTV News at South by Southwest while promoting her upcoming indie “Skateland.” “I will say, at this moment, nudity in a film is something that does turn me off because of the context that it’s put in in most of the films. In his new film, the romantic drama “Remember Me,” Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a rebellious young man in New York City who has had a strained relationship with his father (Pierce Brosnan) ever since tragedy separated their family.

Q: What was it like to be an executive producer on this?
RP: I’m glad Nick’s (Nick Osborne) not in the room anywhere. I mean, I can’t really claim to be a proper producer. I only really came on towards the end of the movie. I was always completely on the same page with Allen (Coulter) and Nick about how they wanted to make it, and then I just wanted to make sure, as much as I could help, to protect the process. I consulted and I talked to them and stuff but I don’t want to claim any kind of creative input.

Q: Is that something you’re looking to do to control your career down the line?
RP: Yes. I was never there. Allen and Nick were there right at the nexus along with Will (Fetters) and they really championed the whole script the whole time. But yeah, I’d love to do it. I’d love to be involved in the whole process. Inevitably things become out of your hands so that the more input you can have when you can have input, the better.

Aside from The Runaways, Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart have appeared in three other projects together — two Twilight installments and the Kate Hudson-directed short Cutlass — but it’s only in next week’s band biopic that the two finally get to show off the rapport they’ve always had in real life. Each is well-cast in The Runaways, and when Movieline spoke to Fanning and Stewart yesterday in Los Angeles, they recalled their characters both literally and subconsciously: The 16-year-old Fanning is as California wholesome as Cherie Currie with the same cool, intellectual drive, while the 19-year-old Stewart is all inchoate passion and feeling, channeling Joan Jett’s emotional thrusts despite her own delicate frame.

Do you think Hollywood is harder on young actresses than it is on young actors?

FANNING: I think it can be, just because girls are “supposed” to be a certain way. In this movie, girls aren’t supposed to play an electric guitar and they’re not supposed to be in a band that plays this kind of music. These girls kind of broke that stereotype a little bit, but I think there’s still some of it today, maybe.

STEWART: Yeah, they had different challenges. I mean, I think that we’re allowed to be a little more outspoken, and to be specific to the movie, more sexually assertive in terms of being the aggressor instead of like…uh, I don’t really know what the opposite word for that would be. [Both laugh] I think in the business, it’s harder for girls, and it’s so obvious and transparent. You don’t have to be perceptive to see that girls are “supposed” to be a certain way, and if they’re not…there’s just less room for individuality for girls. At least, people will notice if you’re different, and they will talk about it. It’s weird.
